PARAMARIBO – The workers at the Academic Hospital Paramaribo (AZP) will reportedly attend union meetings from 11 a.m....

until 3 p.m. on a daily basis. This means that they will be unavailable for 4 hours each day. These meetings are aimed at sending a clear message to management as the workers want to emphasize the fact that they want their performance allowance which they were supposed to get a long time ago.
Lloyd Pool, chairman of the ABPLAZ, made it clear that the union members would continue this strategy until they have received payment. “The people will keep attending meetings until the performance allowance has been deposited,” said the union chairman who added that the work pressure within the nation’s biggest hospital is increasingly growing. The workers have to work extra hours due to the structural shortage of nurses. “Sometimes one person does the work that 3 nurses have to do,” said Pool who added that the demand for payment of the performance allowance is therefore justified.
