BAHAMA - The Bahamas government has “strongly denied” allegations that it is involved in selling passports “like candy”.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has described as “explosive allegations” the statement about the passport sale by the chairman of the Coalition of Independents, Charlotte Green. “The Permanent Secretary has already written to the Commissioner of Police, urging that an investigation be launched into the matter,” the ministry said. “Perhaps Ms Green will exercise her patriotic duty and share any evidence she has in her possession. If she cannot, the country will know that the allegations are bogus.” Green made the accusations on August 19 in an audio post on Facebook, directly criticising Foreign Affairs Minister Fred Mitchell, alleging that Haitians with Bahamian passports were flying daily to the Turks and Caicos, unable to speak English or fill out immigration forms.
