President before getting back to work. They explained that they were discontent with the delay in the things that they were supposed to receive such as the compensation and geen light for a boat fare hike. The boat owners who are all members of the Association of Boat Owners in the Commewijne District (VBDC) went to the main office of TCT to ask why things were taking so long. But nobody came out to welcome them so they went to the Office of the President. TCT Minister Raymond Landveld and the deputy director were reportedly unavailable. The boat owners had already gone on strike about two months ago. They ended the strike after TCT had agreed to give them compensation. But according to the VBDC the government did not do as promised. The boat owners who currently receive SRD 13 per person want the boat fare to be raised to SRD 20 or SRD 25. They also want to keep receiving the state subsidy. The boat owners explained that the current income is not enough to cover the rising costs. They met with Council Advisor Edgar Dikan at the Office of the President. The council advisor assured them that he would bring their case to the attention of President Jennifer Simons and that he would also set a meeting between them and the head of state. He then asked them to resume their operations. The boat owners who have been asking for their problems to be addressed for the past 7 years agreed to end the strike but made it clear that the expect to be invited to future talks. Dikan assured them that he would set a meeting soon.
