PARAMARIBO – The Chairwoman of DA’91, Angelic del Castilho, recently made it clear that the companies that buy copper must also lend a helping...

hand in the fight against the theft of copper. She explained that the headquarters of DA’91 was targeted for a third time in 2 months by copper thieves and that these thefts will not stop because of the high demand in stolen copper. Security footage confirms that the same person keeps taking the copper of the AC unit. Because of these thefts the political party has to keep covering additional costs to repair the damage. Del Castilho pointed out that the only difference is that “the perpetrator did not come in the middle of the night but early in the morning around 5 a.m.” “He clearly does not hesitate to steal the copper. It is not possible to turn the headquarters into a bunker. An important part of the solution would be for the buyers to provide assistance,” said the Chairwoman who added that these companies must not buy copper if it is not clear where it came from. Del Castilho also wants these companies to get registered at the Chamber of Commerce (KKF) so that they can also pay taxes and keep track of all of the people whom they buy copper from.
