The government confirmed that an investigation has been launched and that the complaint had not been withdrawn. Social Affairs and Housing (Sozavo) Minister Diana Pokie on Monday informed parliament that DC Muller had personally asked to go on leave so that the investigation can be carried out smoothly. The case was discussed in parliament after questions had been asked in response to the media reports regarding the complaint. Government officials explained that Para DC Patrick Kensenhuis is currently filling in for DC Muller. This case triggered fierce responses from the female MPs. MP  Rosellie Cotino (NDP) made it clear that a district commissioner is not only a government officials but also a role model. “It is unacceptable for women to become victims of domestic violence. We cannot allow women to be abused in this day of age and especially not by people who are supposed to set a good example and who are supposed to be a father figure in our society,” said MP Cotino.
