GUYANA - The Georgetown Mayor and City Council will rename East Street to John Smith Street today, in honour of General Bishop Dr. Rev. John Oswald Smith, a revered spiritual leader and national icon.
According to a press release issued by the Central Assembly of God church, MS Dr. Smith, General Bishop of the Assemblies of God in Guyana and Senior Pastor of Central Assembly Diplomat Centre, served with unwavering dedication to faith, national unity, and civic leadership. His visionary ministry and tireless service left an enduring impact on Guyana, the Caribbean region, and the global faith community. A champion of education, peacebuilding, and community development, Dr. Smith’s leadership shaped lives and institutions with integrity and compassion. This street renaming stands as a living tribute to his lifetime of service and transformation,” a release said. (Kaieteur News)
