In a post on its Facebook page, the Education Ministry shared:  “Today, the Honourable Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, visited Christ Church Secondary School, where she met with the school’s administration. Final preparations are currently underway, including the placement of furniture and other last-minute arrangements before the students are moved in.”

Christ Church Secondary is one of the new secondary school buildings that the Education Ministry will open in the new academic school term, which begins in September. The original building was destroyed by fire in January 2023, and students were relocated to the Cyril Potter College of Education, Turkeyen. In June that year, the Ministry of Education signed seven contracts totalling USD 688.1 million to rebuild the school.

The ministry disclosed that the school will have 20 classrooms to accommodate 450 to 520 students and will be furnished with science, TVET, electrical and woodworking, Information Technology and Home Economics laboratories, and Art and Music rooms. The school will also have fire prevention and retardant mechanisms and components. Some of these include, but are not limited to, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and some materials that will be used that are not highly flammable. (Kaieteur News)
