PARAMARIBO - The French embassy in Suriname and the organization for the territorial community in French Guiana on Monday held a press conference named ‘Innovating...
by adding value to bio-resources', in the building of ‘Alliance Française Suriname’ which is located in the Letitia Vriesdelaan. ‘Guyane Développement Innovation (GDI) and the ‘Center for Bio-inspired engineering of French Guiana’ (CIBIG) were the hosts of this event.
Éric Lafontaine, director at the GDI, and Camille Morinet, engineer at GDI and CIBIG, who appeared on stage as guest speakers talked about the great opportunity to do some networking and to exchange ideas about the benefits of bioeconomy and innovation for economic performance and sustainable development in French Guiana and Suriname.
Each day Lafontaine who works hard to boost innovation and to support entrepreneurship and the bioeconomy is also the head of the regional development and innovation agency of French Guiana with projects such as the CIBIG and the Chamber of Businesses, a support desk that supports people who carry out innovative projects. He gave a presentation on the regional innovation bureau GDI and the prospects for Panamanian collaboration (Guyana Plateau). Lafontaine who is also an agrarian engineer also teaches public policy at the University of French Guiana.
Camille Morinet, specialist in bio based materials, presented the three platforms of the CIBIG: plant-based chemistry, sustainable food and eco-construction/eco-materials illustrated by projects that are supported by the CIBIG in French Guiana.
