PARAMARIBO – Gum Air recently introduced a temporary fuel surcharge for flights from Paramaribo to Georgetown and vice versa.

The price hike is the result of the fact that the US-Israeli war with Iran is driving up the fuel prices. The fuel surcharge applies to all flights that are carried out by Gum Air in association with Trans Guyana Airways. According to both airlines, the surcharge is necessary to guarantee the continuation of safe and reliable services. Passengers will be charged an additional $25 for a one-way ticket while they will be charged an additional $ 50 for a two-way ticket. A fuel surcharge of 10% will also be applied to freight transportation. Last month Fly Allways announced that it was forced to raise the price of its tickets due to the rising jet fuel prices. Suriname’s national carrier, Surinam Airways (SLM), initially announced that it did not plan on raising its ticket prices because of the situation in the Middle East but sources indicate that the SLM has also introduced a fuel surcharge. Meanwhile Caribbean Airlines (CAL), which also provides regular flights to Suriname has also added a fuel surcharge of $15 to $25 to all of its regional and international tickets. It does not add the fuel surcharge to domestic flights from Trinidad to Tobago.
