PARAMARIBO- President Jennifer Simons recently made it clear that the criticism aimed at her administration has not gone unnoticed. Most of the candidates from her party, the National Democratic Party (NDP),...
are former ministers whose performances are known to the nation. President Simons who was installed last Wednesday as the nation’s first ever female president explained that her administration consciously chose for experience instead of renewal die to the weight of the tasks that await her administration. “Anybody who has ever done political work knows that experience puts you at an advantage,” said President Jennifer Simons who added that the search for the right people was specifically aimed at those with an academic level of thinking and executive experience. She acknowledged the mixed feelings that exist within and outside her own party regarding these members especially when it comes to former officials whose performances are already known. One of the new ministers was also a minister in a previous NDP administration but who had to step down prematurely due to internal political conflics. “Holy people do not work in politics. I did not look for holy people because I know that I will not find them,” said President Simons who added that when these candidates were screened, their background was placed under a magnifying glass. “We looked if there were absurd things in their past and if they are willing to work as a team.”
