The arrests were made after the police had received a tip about a man who was driving a gray Toyota Hiace and who was smuggling a huge batch of chicken from Albina to Paramaribo. When police officers spotted the vehicle, they instructed the driver, K.R., to pull over. After the driver had pulled over, the police inspected the car and came across 68 boxes that contained whole chickens. The driver claimed, however, that the batch of chicken belonged to one of his passengers namely B.R. There were reportedly two passengers with him in his vehicle. B.R. claimed that he had bought the whole chickens in neighboring French Guiana and that he would consume them. The police then proceeded to arrest K.R., B.R. and the other passenger namely K.S. After the suspects had been questioned, the police released K.R. and K.S. The investigation is ongoing.
