GUYANA - The Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) is projected to win Monday’s elections by a landslide. General Secretary and Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo assures non-supporters that their futures will remain secure under President Dr. Irfaan Ali,...
emphasizing a continuous national agenda that serves all Guyana. Jagdeo praised the electoral process as smooth, noting minor glitches but overall efficient organization and free voting. GECOM has posted most SOPs, and INews Guyana predicts PPP/C victories across Regions 1–6, 8, and 9. While awaiting GECOM’s official declaration, Jagdeo argued that internal calculations show the PPP/C entering Parliament with a larger majority than in 2020, highlighting a wide margin between PPP/C votes and those of WIN, APNU, and smaller parties combined.
Jagdeo attributed WIN’s rise to several factors: disaffected APNU supporters seeking an alternative, substantial money spent to sway voters, and a social media campaign appealing to young, impressionable voters, along with nearly 100,000 new voters on WIN’s list. He suggested this shift harmed APNU, calling Congress Place a sad place today. He also noted that former APNU supporters who joined the PPP/C are likely happy, given the PPP/C’s outright victory and stronger parliamentary majority, while APNU has fallen to third place.
With WIN now projected as the main opposition, Jagdeo anticipates an intriguing Parliament season and even foresees attending more sessions to hear Azruddin Mohamed’s speeches. He also highlighted regional gains, including increased PPP/C support in Regions Eight and Nine, and thanked supporters and campaign workers for their efforts. (inewsguyana)
