higher-than-normal mortality has been recorded over the past week. The ministry is urging poultry farmers to remain alert and to report unusual cases of mortality immediately. LVV emphasizes that during this time of year, when daytime temperatures remain consistently high, increased mortality is more frequently observed, particularly among broiler chickens. According to the ministry, increased mortality does not automatically mean that there is a disease outbreak. Various factors can play a role, including heat stress. At the same time, the ministry warns that poultry diseases can emerge under stressful conditions. There is also a possibility that pathogens may enter a farm unnoticed. To prevent further problems, LVV is appealing to livestock farmers, and poultry farmers in particular, to report cases of higher-than-normal mortality. Based on these reports, investigations can be conducted into the possible cause of the deaths and measures can be taken if necessary. Employees of the Livestock Directorate will support poultry farmers in the vicinity of farms where increased mortality has been identified. They can assist in recognizing sick animals and strengthening biosecurity measures. This is intended to prevent any potential diseases from spreading further. LVV emphasizes that poultry farmers should not wait when they observe an unusual increase in mortality. Reports can be made to livestock officers in the various districts.
