PARAMARIBO – While nearly all of the districts have presented the final results of the elections at a public session, the main polling bureau of Paramaribo still has not finished its homework die to recounts, ...
corrections and administrative errors. The Central Main Polling Bureau (CHS) therefore could not hold its public session which had been scheduled to take place on June 9th. After the main polling station in the nation’s capital has finished its work, the CHS can report back to the nation at a public session. Paramaribo District Commissioner Ricardo Bhola confirmed that the work is still being carried out. Paramaribo is the biggest district and has 278 polling stations which also makes it the most complex district. “All of the official reports must be thoroughly checked,” said DC Bhola. “If somebody has made a mistake, everything must be counted again, corrected and checked again. That process is repeated all the time.”
DC Bhola wanted to organize the public session last Sunday but had to put his plan on hold. “There are still two polling stations with deviations that must be verified completely. And that takes time,” said DC Bhola who added that haste makes waste which is why the work is done at a steady pace. “Everything must be 100 percent correct. We do not want any mistakes. Everything must be legally sound.” The delay in the nation’s capital means that people have to keep waiting impatiently for the final results. Political parties, observers and citizens are keeping a close eye on the entire process.
