filed by Derrick Veira, attorney of the Mennonites. Last weekend 56 of the 63 Mennonites who were evicted from the Mazonia region were deported. Last Tuesday it became clear that the remaining Mennonites want to leave Suriname voluntarily. This means that the women and children who also faces deportation have dropped the second lawsuit. Dwight Kraag, the attorney who represents the state, confirmed that the lawsuit had been dropped. At the end of October the judge rejected the first lawsuit that had been filed against the state by Suriname Green Energy Agriculture NV. Suriname Green Energy Agriculture NV had filed the lawsuit to stop the deportation of about 60 Mennonites. The judge also ordered the company to cover all of the legal expenses. The Mennonites were evicted from the Mazonia region because they did not have any residency papers and because they also did not have any work permits.
