PARAMARIBO – MP Genevievre Jordan (ABOP) recently challenged her colleagues who criticized the salary hike of legislators to present a bill aimed at undoing...

the salary hike. She presented this challenge in response to legislators from the NDP who accused her of being one of the legislators who presented the bill that made it possible to raise the salary of legislators to SRD 130,000. During the discussion of the constitutional reforms aimed at restructuring the legislature MP Jordan asked her colleagues who presented the bill for these reforms to produce a blueprint. Members of the NDP faction in parliament took offense at this and reminded MP Jordan that she had never presented a blueprint for the bill aimed at making the salary hike for legislators possible. MP Ebu Jones (NDP) asked MP Jordan for the blueprint that was aimed at giving judges a salary raise in 2024. MP Claudi Sabajo (NDP) also reminded MP Jordan of the bill for the salary hike for legislators.
“All of us get caused at because of that bill. The Surinamese citizens assume that we earn huge sums of money in parliament but that is all because of the bill that was presented at that time by you and MP Gajadien,” said MP Sabajo who added that “the NDP faction objected but you pushed it through.” MP Jordan then challenged MP Jones and MP Sabajo to present a bill aimed at undoing the salary hike. However, the two legislators from the NDP did not respond to her challenge.
