Times of Suriname

It based its conclusion on the most recent results from tests that were conducted in association with the Suriname Water Company (SWM). The water samples that were collected in September and October indicate that there are significantly lower levels of the critical substances such as mercury and lead in comparison to previous results. No cyanide was detected in the latest samples. The people who live near the river can once again use the water from this river. The NMA assured that it would keep an eye on things to check the quality of the water and to protect the public health. It advised against the consumption of predatory fish as they can store high concentrations of mercury in their body.
