I did not know why the payments were stopped so I went to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing twice but I still haven’t received an explanation.” The people who stopped receiving the purchasing power boost pointed out that the government must communicate with the people who are dependent on welfare. They urged the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing to explain why some people are taken off the list and if and how they can get back on the list. PARA - Six months after the villagers from Grankreek protested against the illegal sand diggings in their traditional territory, they still have not received answers to their questions. The Association of Indigenous Village Chiefs in Suriname (VIDS) explained that despite the many letters, requests and talks the authorities still have not shed any light on the investigation
