PARAMARIBO- Parents, students and teachers on Tuesday expressed their disappointment and anger in response to the results of the state exam that the 12th graders received. Several principals made it clear that the results are bad nationwide...
because they and the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture are not on the same page. One of the principals explained that at the start of the school year the Education Ministry had announced that it would work with a new system where each subject is calculated seperately which is why the principals were shocked when they found out that the ministry had worked with the old system. The 12th graders at some Mulo schools still have not received their results and it is unclear when they can expect to receive them. “We received a list with names of students who are not even from our school. We do not know where things went wrong. The ministry has not given us clear instructions on what we must do,” said another principal. Parents disapproved of the delay because their children have waited for this moment for so long just to be told that the announcement of the results has been postponed because the ministry has made mistakes when it corrected the answer sheets and when it calculated the scores. Several parents whose children have already received their results wonder if these results are correct because some reports indicate that the ministry worked with different calculations.
