where gold miners strike gold but so not pay their taxes. MP Rabin Parmessar (NDP) made it clear that this type of robbery must no longer be tolerated. He estimates that hundreds of kilograms of gold are produced at Pelin Bergi every week while the treasury does not get anything for it in return. The legislator from the coalition who recently visited Pelin Bergi with his colleague MP Marengo pointed out that he witnessed first hand the magnitude of the mining activities. Experts have estimated that the gold mining activities at Pelin Bergi have been going on on a large scale for the past six to seven years. MP Parmessar made it clear that the size of the production raises many questions regarding the missed opportunity to reel income for the state. He also made it clear that the government must immediately find out how much gold is produced, who are involved and how much money eventually finds it way into the formal economy and the treasury. MP Parmessar also wants investigators to find out if there is a possible link with Chinese multinational Zijin Mining. He pointed out that President Jennifer Simons has told him that the government will take action soon. According to MP Parmessar, the gold mining activities at Pelin Bergi have not only resulted in huge financial losses for the government dur to the missed opportunity but they have also affected the environment. Huge sections of the landscape have been turned inside out in the search for gold while the use of dagengrous substances damages nature. “So much money goes away while so much poison is dumped irresponsible into nature. I am therefore glad that the president has assured me that action will be taken”, said MP Parmessar who added that he is in favor of regulations to maximize the state income while minimizing the damage to the environment.
