Trump administration unveils 250-foot 'Triumphal Arch' design

WASHINGTON DC – The White House has unveiled renderings for a 250-foot (76meters) arch that President Donald Trump wants to have built in the US capital.

The new monument, nicknamed the "Arc de Trump", will be "the GREATEST and MOST BEAUTIFUL Triumphal Arch, anywhere in the World", the president said on social media on Friday.

The administration said it has officially filed the plans with the Commission of Fine Arts, a panel made up of Trump allies, which will review the proposal next week. The arc is just one of Trump's controversial projects to make Washington DC his style, with his plans for a White House ballroom currently caught up in a legal battle. The monument, if approved, would be taller than the US Capitol building and the Lincoln Memorial. "This will be a wonderful addition to the Washington D.C. area for all Americans to enjoy for many decades to come!" Trump said on Truth Social.

The renderings of the arch depict gold inscription that say "One Nation Under God", topped with two gold eagles and a golden winged Lady Liberty. The base has statues of gold lions. The arch "will enhance the visitor experience at Arlington National Cemetery for veterans, the families of the fallen, and all Americans alike, serving as a visual reminder of the noble sacrifices borne by so many American heroes throughout our 250 year history so we can enjoy our freedoms today," White House spokesperson Davis Ingle said in a statement.

The White House has not shared information on how the arch will be funded. President Trump has previously said that since his ballroom project was "fully financed", some of the leftover money would be used to fund the arch. When the president announced the project last year, he said he wants the arch to be based on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France, and for it to welcome people into the nation's capital from Arlington National Cemetery as they cross the Memorial Bridge into the city.
