USA - US President Donald Trump has reassured residents of Kerrville, Texas, that the federal government will assist in rebuilding efforts following last week’s...
devastating floods, which claimed the lives of at least 121 people in central Texas.
On Friday, the president and First Lady Melania Trump visited the area, meeting with local officials and surveying the damage—at one point standing in front of an overturned tractor-trailer. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” President Trump remarked after touring the destruc-tion.
More than 12,300 volunteers have mobilized to help search for the 161 people still reported missing across the state. Officials said the volunteers have been working tirelessly, averag-ing 10 hours a day.
Although the storms caused widespread damage throughout central Texas, Kerr County bore the brunt of the flooding. During an afternoon roundtable at a youth center in Kerrville, President Trump told local leaders that he and the First Lady had come to “express the love and support, and the anguish of our entire nation.”
First Lady Melania Trump, who typically maintains a low public profile, also toured the affected areas. She said she hugged and prayed with grieving families. “My deepest sympa-thy to all of the parents who lost beautiful young souls,” she said. “We are grieving with you. Our nation is grieving with you.” She also pledged to return for a follow-up visit. (BBC)
