PARAMARIBO - As of May 17th, 2025 Suriname officially has 399,932 voters who can go to the polls on May 25th. The biggest number of voters reside in the Paramaribo District.
Statistics put the registered number of voters in Paramaribo at 163,010. The Wanica District takes second place with 100,082 registered voters. Together these districts are home to 65% of all of the voters which means that they play an important role in the elections. The polling station with the largest number of voters is located at De Nieuwe Grond in the Wanica District, namely 24,498. In order to make things run smoothly there, officials have decided to have 36 booths constructed. The Coronie District has the smallest number of voters namely 2,067. The Sipaliwini District takes the third place with 26,038 registered voters. Commewijne has 24,785 while Nickerie has 23,639. Para has 21,376 while Marowijne has 16,951. The Saramacca District has 12.933 while the Brokopondo District has 9,051 registered voters. The nation’s political parties which are flexing their muscles consider Paramaribo and Wanica as the battlegrounds which will determine the outcome of the elections.
