GUYANA - A 51-year-old salesman was released on $250,000 bail for causing death by dangerous driving when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday.
The accused, Sahadeo Jaggernauth of Lot 311 Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara (ECD), pleaded not guilty after the charge was read by Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty.
It is alleged that Jaggernauth, on July 31, 2025, at Erwin Street and Woolford Avenue, Georgetown, drove motor car PNN 6502 in a dangerous manner causing the death of Julio Khan. The defense was led by attorney Keoma Griffith who requested bail on behalf of his client. Griffith told the court that the deceased was riding in a reckless manner. He added that his client was driving across the road after he was granted permission from another driver and because of the manner in which Khan was riding they collided.
The lawyer assured the court that Jaggernauth was not speeding and there is no evidence to prove such. Griffith told the court that his client is not a flight risk since he was released on $100,000 station bail and appeared to court last Monday. There, he was told that the matter was not ready, and that he was required to return last Wednesday. The prosecution objected to bail due to the serious nature of the offense. Magistrate McGusty granted Jaggernauth bail and cautioned him on the importance of attending court. The matter was adjourned for September 10, 2025. (Kaieteur News)
