The national carrier, Surinam Airways (SLM), has successfully gone through a Standards and Recommended Practices (SARP) audit of the International...

Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The general manager of the SLM, Johan Sandie, explained that “this result confirms that the company meets international standards” and that it would offer new opportunities for commercial collaborations. The audit took place from July 6th until July 9th. Sandie explained that after a new policy was launched in October 2025, the SLM decided to contact the ICAO to level up its safety and quality standards. He pointed out that the SLM prepared itself thoroughly for the independent audit and that it passed it thanks to hard work, good preparation and clear instructions. Sandie expects the future oil and gas industry and the tourism sector to create opportunities for the company. He expects a potential collaboration with the French. “Especially the French are SARP-oriented,” said Sandie who thanked the government for its full cooperation.
