Ambulance fare hike:

“This is unacceptable”

CORONIE - MP Leroy Doorson recently expressed concern over the fact that the ambulance fares have gone up with 70% in the Coronie District.

Times of Suriname

“This is unacceptable,” said MP Doorson. An ambulance ride from Coronie to Paramaribo has been raised to SRD 13,200. An ambulance ride from Coronie to Nieuw-Nickerie has jumped to SRD 9,500 and an ambulance ride from Coronie to Wageningen currently costs SRD 4,900. But that is not all because people who need an ambulance also have to pay for each hour that the ambulance has to wait namely SRD 300 per hour. MP Doorson has already contacted the minister of Health, Welfare and Labor to discuss the issue. He explained that not everybody can afford to pay the ambulance fare in case of an emergency. Meanwhile the Health minister has asked for some time to confirm the reports. MP Doorson pointed out that the ambulance fare hike happened unexpectedly and that nobody has prepared the residents of the Coronie District for it.
